Special Education

There are in the city totally one school for the blinds, one for the deaf, and thirteen of district and county level for the mentally challenged, accommodating 1,730 students and 554 teachers. All over the city 99.56% of children with defects in mentality, hearing and eyesight have been admitted special schools, and the attendance ratio takes a lead in the whole province. A trio of programs, including schools of special education, auxiliary classes to normal schools and allowing the disabled to attend normal classes, are offered to them. There are 135 local schools offering primary, secondary and pre-schooling education that have special classrooms to give tailor-made lectures for the disabled. Hangzhou School for the Deaf and Yang Lingzi School, the two academies of special education, offer programs of senior high school level. There is also one reformatory school committed to educate students under 18 with a record of minor violation of laws.
